New-York-based Sub-Urban Records, founded by the mighty Tommy Musto and Silvio Tancredi in ‘92, continues to deliver soulful house excellence as a ‘96 Deep Zone classic receives a remix package from international house legend DJ Spen. The original version of ‘Praise Him (Lift Your Hands Up)’ saw Matthias Heilbronn and Mike Delgado make magic alongside frequent collaborator Ceybil Jefferies, and the track quickly became a record box favourite thanks to its distinctive solid beat, tight keyboards and gospel-tinged vocals. A highly qualified remixer, DJ Spen takes the addictive elements of the original and updates them for modern dancefloors; the Retroactive Remix and the Retroactive Dub achieve a sound that is nostalgic in feel but ultimately forward thinking, while the DJ Spen & KW Griff Klub Mix gives the iconic record a breakbeat style spin.
